Rockies’ bats sputter against southpaw Madison Bumgarner as Giants beat Colorado

SAN FRANCISCO — Let the trade rumors swirl amid the rebuilding, last-place Giants. Out here in the China Basin, when local pitching legend and former World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner takes the hill, all that chatter is just a distraction from his dominance.

Such was the case Tuesday night, when Bumgarner fanned 11 batters to overshadow Chi Chi Gonzalez’s decent Rockies debut as the Giants beat Colorado 4-2.

“He was doing his MadBum thing,” manager Bud Black said. “It was a little different style from early MadBum, but there’s still life to the fastball, a slider/cutter that comes into play against the lefties, and he pitched in well and pitched well with the ball away.
