Major League Baseball expected to suspend operations due to coronavirus

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Major League Baseball on Thursday was expected to become the latest major professional sports league to suspend its season because of the spread of the coronavirus.

The decision comes after the NBA suspended its season Wednesday night after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for the coronavirus, and after the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and Pac-12 canceled their men’s basketball conference tournaments on Thursday.

ESPN reported that MLB was going to announce Thursday afternoon that all operations would be suspended indefinitely.
