Avalanche wins shootout over Wild for its first win of the preseason

With the Avalanche within a shot of falling to 0-4 in the preseason Sunday, captain Gabe Landeskog saved the day in an otherwise meaningless game at the Pepsi Center.

The Avs captain lifted a backhander over the glove of goalie Alex Stalock in the third round of the shootout to beat the Minnesota Wild 3-2.

Newcomer Nazem Kadri scored in the first round and goalie Philipp Grubauer stopped two of three shots in the shootout for the Avs.

The triumph makes Colorado 1-3 entering the final week of the preseason. The regular-season opener is Oct.
