The Avalanche is giving Valeri Nichushkin another chance to play in the NHL, signing the Russian forward to a one-year contract Monday.
The one-way deal is worth $850,000, according to a team source.
Nichushkin, 24, had no goals and just 10 assists in 57 games for the Dallas Stars last season. He was a 2013 first-round draft pick of the Stars (10th overall) but never panned out with the NHL club and played the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons in his native Kontinental Hockey League.
The left-shooting right wing (6-foot-4, 210 pounds) has 74 points (23 goals) in 223 career NHL regular-season games.
