Avalanche gets a point in overtime loss to Edmonton

EDMONTON, Alberta — Minus top-pair defenseman Nikita Zadorov, who was benched by coach Jared Bednar for the last five minutes of the second period and the entire third, the slumbering Avalanche awoke and rallied for a point Thursday night with a 3-2 overtime loss against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena.

Connor McDavid, who had a hat trick Sunday in a 4-2 victory against the Avs in Denver, scored 2:19 into overtime to beat Colorado for the second time in a week. It was his 27th goal of the season, and it gave the Oilers its second win in nine games — both against the Avs, who remain three points out of a playoff spot.
