Cleveland Indians' Abraham Almonte suspended for 80 games for PED violation

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Indians outfielder Abraham Almonte has been suspended for 80 games because of a violation of MLB's drug policy. Almonte was scheduled to be the Indians' opening day centerfielder.

Almonte is the Tribe's first big-league player to be suspended for PED use since Rafael Betancourt in 2005.

The Indians acquired Almonte from San Diego at midseason last year. He filled a void in center, hitting .264 over 51 games with five home runs and 20 RBI.

The Tribe's other center field options include Rajai Davis, Tyler Naquin, Zach Walters, James Ramsey and Shane Robinson.
