Indians Defeat Cubs 1-0 In Pitcher's Duel To Take 2-1 Lead In World Series

The Cleveland Indians are just two games away from capturing a World Series crown. The Indians defeated the Chicago Cubs 1-0 in a pitcher's duel Friday night.

The Indians lone run, and only run of the game, came in the top of the 7th. Coco Crisp pinch hit, driving in Michael Martinez for the game-winning win.

The Cubs' best chance came in the bottom of the 9th, Anthony Rizzo singled to lead off the ninth inning and pinch runner Chris Coughlin made his way to third after a two-out error allowed Jason Heyward to reach first. Heyward stole second to put the game-winning run on second, but Javier Baez struck out to end the game.

Josh Tomlin went 4.2 innings, allowing only two hits for Cleveland. Andrew Miller, Bryan Shaw and Allen combined to shut down the Cubs the rest of the way. Allen recorded the four-out save.

Game 4 is in Chicago Saturday. First pitch is set for 8:08 p.m. ET.
