When Nick Castellanos spent the final two months of the 2019 season with the Chicago Cubs, his mantra was “every day is Opening Day.” He repeated it to his manager, Joe Maddon, before each game.
It was a way Castellanos reminded himself to stay in the moment. Never is that more important than when a team is trying to push through a tight playoff race.
“Hey, if we go out and win today,” Castellanos said before Wednesday’s series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers, “all that will take care of itself.”
Castellanos was the hottest hitter in baseball for the first two weeks of the season.
