Cincinnati Reds manager Jim Riggleman is willing to push his relievers beyond the one-inning outing

Reds manager Jim Riggleman dared to go 2 u2154 innings and 42 pitches with reliever Jared Hughes in Tuesday night’s 9-7 12-inning victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Riggleman may have risked arrest by the Pitch Count Police in doing so, but he thinks baseball in general has become too cautious with the way relievers are used.

“There’s an area that I think we can ask a little more of our pitchers,” Riggleman said. “Certainly, we don’t want to get anyone hurt.
