Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto leaves game with left thumb injury

As Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto checked his swing in the fourth inning on Wednesday at Great American Ball Park, he was hit in the hand by an 80-mph change-up from Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel.

One inning later, Votto left the game with a left thumb injury.

After being hit, Votto walked to first base, and he wasn't checked on by the training staff on the field. He ran the bases and played the field in the top of the fifth inning. But Reds Manager David Bell pulled Votto from the game in the top of the sixth inning for utility player Kyle Farmer.
