For many of us, Thanksgiving Day football has been as much of a tradition as turkey, cranberry sauce and homemade pumpkin pie. And, as it turns out, it has been around almost as long.

The first Thanksgiving Day football game was played in 1925 when a crowd of 36,000, then the largest crowd in professional football history, saw the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cardinals play to a scoreless tie at Wrigley Field.

In 1934, the Detroit Lions-Chicago Bears Thanksgiving Day tilt was the first nationally-broadcast NFL game, with NBC radio doing the honors.
