Ian Happ, the former UC Bearcats star drafted in the first round by the Chicago Cubs in 2015 and promoted to the big leagues before Saturday's game against the Cardinals, homered for his first Major League hit in the Cubs' 5-3 loss in St. Louis.
Happ hit a two-run home run off of Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez with two outs in the seventh inning to become the first Cubs player to homer in his Major League debut since Jorge Soler on Aug. 27, 2014. Happ was the last batter Martinez faced in the game.
