Mike Boone, like most University of Cincinnati football players, did not grow up in Cincinnati. Thus, Boone and his UC teammates enjoyed a unique slice of Queen City history when they scrimmaged at Elder High School’s nationally known “Pit” on Saturday.
“I’ve heard about the Pit,” said Boone, a senior who is UC’s No. 1 running back. “It was a great atmosphere here. We were just always at (UC), so to change it up was a great atmosphere.”
With temperatures in the low 40s, an estimated 2,000-plus fans shivered through the scrimmage at the Pit. The West Side institution once was named by USA Today among the top 10 places to watch a high school football game in America.
