Princeton grad Gilbert adjusts to new UC role

Tyrell Gilbert played quarterback at Princeton High School, but the University of Cincinnati junior-to-be has found himself in several different roles with the Bearcats football team.

Gilbert, a starter at safety last year, is adjusting to another new position during spring practice. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Gilbert is slated for the nickel/Sam linebacker position, occupied by since-departed NFL draft prospect Michael Tyson in 2016.

“I’ll be covering a lot of slot receivers, inside receivers, a lot of shifty guys,” Gilbert said. “I’ll be getting in the mix and being in the box more. I’ll just basically be around the ball more, a lot more tackles and things like that.
