The magic number for the Chicago White Sox to win the American League Central remained four after the Sox lost a 5-3, 10-inning heartbreaker to the Cleveland Indians on Monday night at Progressive Field.
The Sox lead is down to a half-game over the second-place Minnesota Twins, who beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4 in 10 innings.
The Sox last week clinched their first playoff appearance in 12 years, and the Twins and Indians also have wrapped up postseason berths. The four-game series with the third-place Indians continues Wednesday in Cleveland.
Record: 34-22, a half-game back in the division, 2½ games ahead of the Indians for the second-place playoff berth.
