James Shields and Ervin Santana briefly had dueling perfect games to open Wednesday night’s game between the White Sox and Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field, and the teams were tied at 1-1 through four innings.

Shields struck out four over the first three innings, while Santana struck out five through 2 2/3 perfect innings.

Sox left fielder Alen Hanson broke up Santana’s bid when he tripled down the right-field line and then scored on Jorge Polanco’s throwing error to third base.

Polanco made up for the mistake when he hit his fourth homer in four games off Shields with two out in the fourth.
