Cubs Settle with Willson Contreras for $6.65 Million

Not long after it was announced that Javy Báez had agreed to an $11.65 million contract, word came out that Willson Conteras had settled for $6.65 million. That’s a nearly 50% increase over what would have been a $4.5 million salary last season, but it’s still well below the high end of projections for the catcher.

Per source, Cubs and catcher Willson Contreras have avoided arbitration with a 1-year, $6.65M contract for 2021.

Contreras still has one more year of club control remaining and he’s been heavily mentioned in trade rumors all winter, so we’ll see whether this brings things into focus.
