Cubs' Jon Lester jokes universal DH takes 'a pretty big force' out of lineup

Cubs pitcher Jon Lester started his career 0-for-66 at the plate until getting his first hit in 2015. He’s since made strides offensively, wielding a pretty wicked swing and hitting a home run each of the past three seasons.

So, how does Lester feel about the National League adding a designated hitter for the 2020 season?

“I told [Cubs manager David Ross] that I'm hitting in the games I'm pitching, so I don't know what he wants to do there but you're taking a pretty big force out of the lineup if we're going to the DH every five days,” Lester said in Saturday’s Zoom session.
