Cubs hoping Jake Arrieta's command returns in the nick of time

In a stunning show of support, Jake Arrieta's agent Scott Boras told reporters in Los Angeles over the weekend that he thinks his client could be the most valuable starting pitcher on the entire free agent market this coming offseason.

Boras thinks Arrieta's combination of playoff mettle, clubhouse leadership and a relatively light innings load on his 31-year-old right arm makes him the safest choice when it comes to the difficult task of finding good value on a starting pitcher in his 30s.

Facing elimination at the hands of a 104-win juggernaut, Wednesday could very well be Arrieta's last outing in a Cubs uniform, and the Cubs haven't witnessed his dominant form since he hit the disabled list with a hamstring strain at the beginning of September.
