Calgary Hitmen put ugly second period behind them in first win of season

Dallas Ferguson didn’t have to say much to his team after a lackluster second period on Saturday.

The new coach for the Calgary Hitmen had a feeling that his players would figure things out after being outshot 16-4 by the visiting Kootenay Ice and outscored 1-0 in the middle frame.

“I don’t know if you have to say too much when you have a period like that,” said Ferguson, whose squad rebounded with three goals in the final frame to win 3-1. “Most of it was self-inflicted just with our turnovers and the next thing you know, you’re playing in your defensive zone way too long.
