Jose Mourinho says signing Alexis Sanchez is not an admission that Manchester United lack spark... but a dour win at Burnley proves they do

Asked on the eve of Manchester United’s win at Burnley if the decision to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in mid-season is a sign that his team lacks something, Jose Mourinho answered emphatically.

‘The team is lacking nothing,’ insisted the United manager. ‘It is not the point of lacking something or we desperately need something. It is just thinking about the improvement of the team in the future.’

Mourinho’s argument is that parachuting the Chile star into Old Trafford in January is a reflection of the player’s calibre rather than an admission of United’s shortcomings.
