Briggs: For Bowling Green hockey, the magic is back at rocking Slater Family Ice Arena

BOWLING GREEN — It is not just the magic of the old barn.

It’s the team and the town filling it.

I dropped by Slater Family Ice Arena over the weekend, and I won’t pretend it felt like the old days. I wasn’t here for the roaring heights that crested with Bowling Green’s 1984 national championship.

But I know this: Something pretty cool is happening on Mercer Avenue.

Have you heard? The ice birds are the word.

Fresh off a four-point series against No. 15 St. Thomas — an overtime loss followed by a 3-1 victory — the young Falcons (15-7-6) are on the brink of the national polls.
