Saturday’s Bird Droppings: Where Trey Mancini is the face of the Orioles

Good morning, Birdland!

I like Trey Mancini. I like him a whole lot! He’s a talented baseball player; one of the Orioles’ very best. And he has taken up the mantle of “veteran leader” left vacant by Adam Jones’s departure last offseason. From buying the spring training Popeye’s to hosting the Purple Tailgate this weekend, Mancini is all in on his new role. That’s cool and only adds to his standing as “Fan Favorite.”

But if the recent decision to put infielder Jonathan Villar on waivers has taught us anything it’s that we shouldn’t get too attached to any one player.
