SELMA, Ind. — Quite a bit has changed with New Castle volleyball since it won a state title last fall.
The old coach was let go, and a new one was brought in. A few key seniors graduated. Some new players, including a move-in, had to fill those holes on varsity. Two current players had to sit out seven matches this season.
And yet, after New Castle (32-5) powered past Delta (25-19, 25-17, 25-16) to win the Wapahani Sectional on Saturday night, star junior Melani Shaffmaster said the core of this team has grown closer than ever over the last year.
