MUNCIE, Ind. — It surely wasn't pretty, but Ball State held off Tennessee Tech 28-13 on Saturday at Scheumann Stadium. Here are five takeaways.

1. Ball State has to play better

The Cardinals' three turnovers were a topic of conversation as Riley Neal had two interceptions and Caleb Huntley lost a fumble with a chance to put the game on ice.

"We won," John Swisher said, "but we have to do a lot, lot better."

Indeed. With road games coming up at defending Conference USA champion Western Kentucky, defending MAC champion Western Michigan and Akron, the Cardinals won't win many games playing the way they did Saturday.
