Pity Martinez flourishing in team confidence following first MLS goal

Since joining Atlanta United in the offseason, Gonzalo “Pity” Martínez hasn’t truly found his rhythm to produce the magic moments that became routine for him back in South America that earned him the continent’s prestigious Player of the Year award. But now, a few months into the season with his new side, his confidence – along with the team’s – is growing rapidly, and it was on full display Sunday when the Five Stripes earned their fifth win in six matches to take down Orlando City 1-0, courtesy of Pity’s first MLS goal.

“The goal was necessary for me for my confidence,” said Pity through a translator, “and that the team showed another mark of character that we need at the moment…I had the confidence of my teammates that it was going to come at some point, and today it came and the team can keep winning, which is the most important.
