Braves place Cole Hamels on 10-day IL with shoulder injury, likely ending his season

The Cole Hamels experiment in Atlanta is over before it ever really began.

After making his season debut last week in Baltimore, the Braves have placed Hamels on the 10-day IL, effectively ending his season.

According to Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos, Hamels said his shoulder felt fine following Wednesday’s season debut, but it began to bother him during a recent bullpen session. He was scheduled to start Tuesday night against the Marlins and then likely once more on the final day of the season on Sunday.

The hope was that Hamels would be able to build up enough strength and stamina to serve as one of the Braves’ postseason starters beginning next week, but that is no longer an option.
