King: Second-year coaches have much to prove

LITTLE ROCK — Opining on Georgia’s success under Kirby Smart, Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt implied that Smart’s predecessor should get some credit.

Pruitt’s observation is correct, but Mark Richt’s resume, including back-to-back 10-3 seasons his last two years at Georgia, is atypical for a coach who is canned. Much more common are records such as those of Pruitt’s predecessor, Butch Jones, and Bret Bielema at Arkansas.

Most Razorback fans agree the UA lacked talent when Bielema departed, but many wonder how long until Chad Morris is a legitimate part of the blame game. To that end, the upcoming two-week window is critical.
