The Los Angeles Lakers, less than a week after firing Arizona State alum Byron Scott, have named Walton's as the team's next head coach, it was officially announced Friday night.
"We're excited to bring Luke back to Los Angeles, where we feel he's going to start an outstanding coaching career," said Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak in a statement. "He's one of the brightest young coaching minds in the game and we feel fortunate that he'll be leading the on-court future of our team."
The former Arizona Wildcats' star has been an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors for the past two seasons, including a temporary stint as the team's interim head coach when Steve Kerr was recovering from back surgery.
