ASU Softball: Sun Devils split against Mississippi State and Oklahoma

ASU softball is now 10-2 on the year after splitting its games Thursday in the Mary Nutter Classic.

The Sun Devils opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over Mississippi State. Freshman Giselle “G” Juarez led Arizona State to victory throwing a complete game with a career-high 12 strikeouts.

ASU started the scoring in the first inning when Danielle Gibson drove in two RBIs with a double. Trailing 2-0, Mississippi State showed signs of life when Mia Davidson shrunk the Sun Devil lead to one as the result of a solo home run.

In the top of the seventh, ASU responded with a much-needed insurance run from a Jade Gortarez double to make the final score 3-1.
