ASU Basketball: No. 5 Sun Devils earn highest ranking since 1981

Forget that the Arizona State Sun Devils have made the NCAA Tournament just three times in the last 22 years, own two straight losing seasons or have had just three players drafted since 2005.

Arizona State Sun Devils landed No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll on Monday morning.

Villanova, Michigan State, Wichita State and Duke rank ahead of ahead of Arizona State, respectively.

It’s the highest ASU has ranked since the 1980-81 season when the Sun Devils clinched No. 3 in the final AP Poll. Led by Byron Scott, Aaron Lister and Fat Lever, ASU finished that season 24-4 with a second round loss to Kansas in the 1981 NCAA Tournament.
