Even after their best week of baseball in months, the Diamondbacks entered Saturday night facing long odds of reaching the postseason. Despite a five-game win streak, they had made up just one game in the wild-card race and needed to erase a 4 1/2-game deficit over their final 27 games.
It’s possible, of course. It is perhaps even be more possible than it might appear.
The Diamondbacks essentially are competing with six clubs for the second wild-card spot; the Washington Nationals seemingly are in position to claim the first one.
