Robbie Ray nears return as Arizona Diamondbacks' rotation remains in flux

In a nearly empty Chase Field early Tuesday afternoon, loud grunts resonated from the home bullpen, followed by the pop of a catcher’s mitt.

Robbie Ray was back on a mound. As it turned out, he was feeling good.

Ray appears to be pointing toward a return from the injured list Sunday in Milwaukee, a move that would mark the latest adjustment to the Diamondbacks’ starting rotation in a season filled with them.

Unlike the past two years, when they largely have been able to get through some early-season bumps before being able to stabilize their rotation, the Diamondbacks either have been in a state of constant flux or have battled inconsistent results for much of the season.
