SAN DIEGO – Reflecting on a season defined by its ups and downs, Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly was, in a way, glad to have experienced both extremes. The down times – the “dark” period, as he called it – lasted too long. But he doesn’t know if he’d be where he is without them.
After leading the Diamondbacks to a 9-0 win at Petco Park on Friday night, Kelly was riding high once again. In late August, he appeared on the verge of being bumped from the rotation.
