Diamondbacks take precautions in steamy Texas heat

ARLINGTON, Texas – Looking to battle the extreme heat, the Diamondbacks tweaked their pregame schedule on Tuesday, lightening the load for their players during batting practice.

The mid-afternoon temperature was in the mid-to-upper 90s, and a weather app estimated that it felt closer to 108 degrees when factoring in the humidity of around 50 percent.

To combat the elements, the Diamondbacks briefly took infield, then came off the field. When hitters came out for batting practice, they hit in their group and immediately went back inside.

“The rest of us coaches and maybe starting pitchers will manage the shagging,” Lovullo said.
