Steelers pick up fifth-year option on Minkah Fitzpatrick’s contract

Before it makes moves in the NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers took care of business on Tuesday.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the team exercised the fifth-year option on Minkah Fitzpatrick’s contract.

Since getting him in a trade from the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 16, 2019, the former All-American safety from the University of Alabama has been dominant for the Steelers.

He’s totaled 136 tackles, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, nine interceptions, 21 pass breakups, and two defensive touchdowns in 30 games. Fitzpatrick recorded 79 tackles (team-high), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four picks (team-high), and 11 breakups last year.
