Wisconsin’s growing men’s hockey program took a big step forward this weekend.

Playing in front of the biggest home crowd of the season on Saturday, Wisconsin (11-8-1 overall, 4-2-0-0 Big Ten) upset visiting No. 7 Minnesota (14-6-2 overall, 6-2-0-0 Big Ten) 5-3 at the Kohl Center. The huge win came on the heels of a close 4-3 overtime loss to the Gophers on Friday.

Saturday saw the Badgers go down early to the Gophers on goals by Ryan Norman and Mike Szmatula. Wisconsin turned the game in the second period, notching three goals within five minutes of each other midway through the frame.
