2017 NFL Draft: Wisconsin RB Dare Ogunbowale signs with Houston Texans as UDFA

Another walk-on will have an opportunity to make it in the NFL.

The Houston Texans signed former Wisconsin Badgers running back Dare Ogunbowale, after the 2017 NFL Draft. Scout.com’s and SportsTalk790’s Patrick Starr appears to have reported the news first on Saturday evening. B5Q also confirmed the signing, per a source.

Ogunbowale’s story is a prime example of a walk-on making the most of his opportunity—ending his career with 49 games played, 1,518 yards and 13 rushing touchdown.

Originally called into 2012 summer camp midway through that August, he worked his way up into a reserve defensive back role until he was approached early during the 2014 season by then-head coach Gary Andersen to play tailback behind Melvin Gordon and Corey Clement.
