WMU running backs join teammates on national award watch lists

KALAMAZOO, MI - Question marks surround the 2017 Western Michigan football season after most of the Broncos coaching staff rowed its way west to Minnesota, but that hasn't crushed expectations.

After all, there's a reason the mantra, "it's not about the X's and O's; it's about the Jimmys and the Joes" has found traction in the football community.

The talent on Western Michigan's 2017 roster was recognized Thursday, as running backs Jarvion Franklin and Jamauri Bogan were named to the Doak Walker Award watch list.

Franklin, a 6-foot, 228-pound senior, led the Broncos with 1,353 rushing yards in 2016, and he added 25 catches for 288 yards to finish with 14 touchdowns.
