Mitchell Robinson is one step closer to representing the United States in international competition.
The incoming Western Kentucky freshman center was named Tuesday as one of 18 finalists for the 2017 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team.
Robinson has been in Colorado Springs, Colo., this week, trying out to make the team, which is led by Kentucky coach John Calipari.
Robinson and the 17 other selected finalists will remain in Colorado Springs and will train twice a day through June 25. The 12-member team is expected to be announced June 22.
Robinson’s fellow finalists include Kentucky guard Hamidou Diallo and Wildcat newcomers Kevin Knox II and PJ Washington.
