MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — It has been a few years since conference realignment reshaped the college sports landscape, but recent comments from Oklahoma president David Boren suggest the Big 12 could look to expand.
West Virginia athletic director Shane Lyons is willing to at least consider such a move.
“I’m always adaptable to change,” Lyons said this week in an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I don’t want to ever close the door and say ‘No, I’m not in favor of expansion’ or ‘Yes, I’m in favor.’ ”
Lyons, five months into his job as West Virginia athletic director, said while he is not opposed to the idea of expansion, he believes the Big 12 is currently “in a great spot” with 10 schools.
