Mountaineers fall behind early, drop series to Kansas

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The day began with Kansas striking for five runs in the first inning. It ended with West Virginia only a half-game out of last place in the Big 12.

The slumping Mountaineers lost 9-5 on Saturday despite two homers each from by Jackson Cramer and Shaun Wood, dropping their fourth league series in five tries and failing once again to extract a desperately needed win in their new ballpark.

West Virginia (23-17, 5-9), which two weeks ago had hoped to improve its NCAA postseason position by making hay on an 11-game homestand, has gone just 5-5 since—and only 1-4 in Big 12 games.
