With uncertainty over Kirk Cousins' future, Nate Sudfeld's development could be key

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins face a quarterback decision, though it’s only indirectly tied to the starter, Kirk Cousins.

Should they keep two or three quarterbacks on the roster? As the offensive coordinator in Cincinnati for three seasons, coach Jay Gruden opted for two quarterbacks each season. But in his first two years with Washington he’s kept three; there were concerns about Robert Griffin III’s durability and Cousins’ readiness, so keeping Colt McCoy around made sense.

But Cousins showed last season that he could play well. Even if he doesn’t duplicate that success this season, he’s a worthy starter.
