Redskins place first-round pick Josh Doctson on injured reserve

When wide receiver Josh Doctson was selected in the first round of last season’s draft, onlookers were surprised. Washington had depth at receiver. General manager Scot McCloughan often eschewed the shiny for the grind, chasing linebackers and “middle men” in past drafts. It wasn’t a talent issue. More of a fit concern rationalized by the fact veteran wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon were going into the final year of their contracts.

Trouble began not long after. Doctson missed most of the offseason and preseason because of pain in his Achilles tendon, which he first injured in rookie minicamp.
