Redskins: Can Trent Murphy boost D-line?

The Washington Redskins chose not to make any major moves to add talent to their defensive line this offseason. No high round draft picks or big-time free agent signings were used on the D-line. Head coach Jay Gruden stated that he liked the defensive linemen he already had. One of the names that he mentioned was Trent Murphy.

Murphy will be making the transition from outside linebacker to defensive end this season. It’s a move that’s due to both need and chance. With Junior Galette making his Redskins debut this season and the emergence of Preston Smith it became apparent that Murphy’s role at OLB would be drastically diminished.
