Redskins, OT Trent Williams Agree On Huge Five-Year Contract Extension

The Washington Redskins and Pro Bowl offensive tackle Trent Williams have come to an agreement on a huge multi-year contract extension, ensuring that Williams will serve as the anchor for the team's offensive line for years to come.

Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media:

With a walk year looming, Williams came into camp 20 pounds lighter and with his focus zeroed in, not on next winter's free agency, but his job during the season ahead.

“I’m not going to worry about it,” Williams said. “It’s up at the end of the year. As of now, I have to give Washington one of the best years of my career. That’s my focus, being better than last year and the contract situation, it’ll work out, hopefully. I don’t really have a say in that.”

Lack of worry or not, Williams is now the highest paid offensive tackle in NFL history and will receive a massive amount of guaranteed money right off the bat:

The 27-year-old Oklahoma product has made the Pro Bowl three years in a row, providing stability despite flux around him both from an O-line and skill-position standpoint. He was slated to make in the neighborhood of $12.7 million in 2015 before the extension.
