Redskins Rumors: Washington's Top 3 Free Agent Targets Are...

The Washington Redskins limped through another disappointing season in the first year under head coach Jay Gruden, and they're hoping to get back to the playoffs. Here are the players their targeting in free agency to help them get back there:

S Louis Delmas

Safety has been a problem for the Redskins over the past few years, and signing Delmas would give them a young upgrade at the position. Ryan Clark and Brandon Meriweather, last year's starters, are both free agents and probably won't be back with the team. Delmas racked up 61 tackles in 13 games for the Dolphins last season and would be a reliable option in the back end of the defense.

NT Dan Williams

Williams is a true 3-4 nose tackle at 327 pounds and would take over the starting job from Barry Cofield, who has been playing somewhat out of position since signing with Washington. They have the option of releasing Cofield to save $4.1 million in cap space, but Williams will likely demand around $5-$6 million a year. However, Williams is only 27 years old and put up an impressive 31 tackles for a nose tackle last year.

LB A.J. Hawk

Hawk won’t be a star for the Redskins, but he’ll be a nice complementary piece and an upgrade to their linebacking core. He finished the season with 90 tackles with Green Bay last season, but was cut to free up cap space. The biggest knock on Hawk is his lack of versatility – he only has one interception in the last four seasons – but his toughness and run-stopping ability would make him valuable in Washington.
