Washington to interview Mangini in defensive coordinator search
San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach Eric Mangini made his name as a defensive coach. There's a chance that the Redskins will bring him back to that side of the ball.
Per Josh Alper of NBC's Pro Football Talk, "Dianna Marie Russini of NBC Washington reports that Mangini will interview for the vacant defensive coordinator position on Jay Gruden’s Redskins staff."
Mangini was named the New England Patriots' defensive coordinator in 2005 after several years as the team's defensive backs coach. He would go on to head coaching roles with the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns before joining the 49ers' staff in 2013.
Odds that Raheem Morris leaves for New York?
The New York Giants are casting a wide net in the search to fill their own vacant DC position, and they've already interviewed Redskins defensive backs coach Raheem Morris for the job.
As of Sunday, NJ.com lists Morris as the third-most likely candidate to take the job at odds of 10/1, with Ravens senior defensive assistant Steve Spagnuolo listed as a 2/1 favorite and former Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith coming in 2nd at 7/1.
Frank Gore to the Redskins?
The Washington Redskins are likely to target veteran running back Frank Gore, per a Sporting News report.
New Redskins GM Scot McCloughlan was the man who drafted Gore to the San Francisco 49ers in 2005, and his high opinion of the University of Miami product could net the Redskins plenty of favor in negotiations - provided Gore and the 49ers can't put together a workable deal to keep him in the Bay.
