Management "bungling team name issue" leads today's Redskins news update

The past few weeks of Redskins news haven't been centered around the product on the field. Rather, it's the team's name itself which is grabbing all the headlines during the beginning of offseason team activities.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, "the problem started the moment the organization decided to actively engage the opponents of the team’s name in early 2013."

However, that may just be the beginning. Per Florio, the team began a Twitter and email campaign imploring fans to send their support for the team's name to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid:

"On Friday, Redskins President Bruce Allen set the record straight by responding to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Senators in the letter below,” the team stated in an email to their newsletter subscribers. “We’ve received an enormous amount of requests from fans asking how they can contact Senator Reid. Please show Senator Reid your #RedskinsPride and tell him what the team means to you by contacting him below.”

The effort is already starting to gain a large amount of criticism in the media, along with a statement that Deadspin posted from Reid's office which labeled the effort "so massively a failure."
