Wire Taps: Nationals drop sixth straight, A.J. Cole gets call, Anthony Rendon update

Andrelton Simmons was on first when Doug Fister threw over to check the Atlanta Braves' shortstop. Fister sent the throw by Washington Nationals' first baseman Ryan Zimmerman and into foul territory. Danny Espinosa hustled to recover the ball and skipped a throw across the infield to where Yunel Escobar was waiting at third base. Simmons wasn't going to beat the throw. He slid late, cleat-first into Escobar's gloved left hand, knocking the glove off.

Escobar left the game rather abruptly, replaced at third by Danny Espinosa with Dan Uggla coming on to play second.
